Born in 1938 Dr. Sthapak received his B.E.(Hons) Mech. Degree in 1959 from jabalpur University and obtained Masters and Ph.D.degree from University of Roorkee in 1964 and 1975 respectively. He was the recipient of khosla research Award for the year 1974 and has more than 60 publications to his credit in various international and national technical journals and proceedings & has guided and examined number of Ph. Ds. He has organized more than 20 seminars/ workshop/ conferences at national and international levels and has delivered many invited/ expert lectures during various training programmes conferences, symposia and seminars.

            During his professional career in Govt. of M.P. he worked as Principal of Engineering College at Bilaspur & Raipur and on deputation in private sector as Director, Bhilai institute of Technology, Later on he was posted as Additional Director, Technical Education Madhya Pradesh and made incharge of the prestigious World Bank Project for technical education in M.P. It was due to his dedicated efforts that the world Bank Assisted Technician Education Project could be successfully implemented in the State As Head of the State Project implementation Unit he  got implemented schemes of staff Development, Industry Institute Partnership, Continuing Education, Multi Point Entry and Credit System, Learning Resource Development and Utilization, Management Information System etc. which resulted in qualitative improvement of technician education system.

            In 1998 he retired from the post of Director Technical Education, Govt. of M.P. Bhopal. There after, he rendered his services to various self financing Engg. Colleges in the state of Chhattisgarh in the capacity of Advisor & Director.

            He has been the Dean of faculty of Engineering and member of the Executive Council at Ravishankar University, Raipur and Vikram University Ujjain, expert member of Research Degree Committee of University of Allahbad, Gorakhpur, Nagpur, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Sagar and Chairman Board of studies of Vikram University, Ujjain and Ravishankar University Raipur. He has been the vice chairman of Advisory Committee of MAPCOST for Science and Technology Entrepreneurship programme, Chairman of the task force for assessment of technical manpower requirements for Chhattisgarh region, member National Committee of Technical Education & Training, member National Advisory Committee of Technician Education, and member Central Regional Committee of A.I.C.T.E.

             Dr. Sthapak has been active member of Board of Governors of several technical education Institutions including Indian Institute of Technology Powal, Mumbai, N.I.M.A.C.T. Bhopal, Shri G.S.I.T.S. Indore, M.I.T.S. Gwalior, S.A.T.I. Vidisha and others.

             Quality Assurance is the field, which interests him the most. The State Govt. of Chhattisgarh has appointed him as the founder Vice Chancellor of Swami Vivekanand Technical University, Bhilai in March 2005. Thus he is guiding the destiny of Technical Education in Chhattisgarh. In additions he is rendering his  honorary services to International Forum for Quality Assurance in Technical Education in the capacity of its President.

             Dr. Sthapak has traveled far and wide including Italy, Spain, U.K. and France. He has provided his expert opinion in the field of Technical education on various occasions through Media talks and presentations.
